Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

HIMAA supports the process of Recognised Prior Learning for students who have undertaken appropriate studies or work experience and who can provide evidence of competency.  Units for RPL are
HLTADM006 – Undertake complex clinical coding
Entry requirement
HLTCC301B Produce coded clinical data (Statement of Attainment) or HLTADM0005
RPL for this unit can be demonstrated by completion of the HIMAA recognition assessment for HLTCC301B Produce coded clinical data or HLTADM005 and a Third Party Report.
HLTADM007 – Complete highly complex clinical coding
Entry requirement
HLTADM006 Undertake complex clinical coding (Statement of Attainment) and
a pass in the Challenge Examination for HLTADM007 Complete highly complex clinical coding which is the RPL assessment for this course. Suitable candidates for the HIMAA Challenge Examination for HLTADM007 Complete highly complex clinical coding will have

  • received a Statement of Attainment for HLTADM006 Undertake complex clinical coding and have a minimum of twelve months’ additional coding experience with a varied casemix    or
  • a minimum of four years' clinical coding experience in a major hospital with a varied casemix
