Our Health Information Services team is a leader in health information management. As the first public health service in Victoria to implement a centralised data team supporting both Health Information Services and Specialist Consulting roles, we’ve paved the way for a new and innovative delivery model. The success of this model is seeing other public health services move to organise themselves in a similar way.

We are now looking to engage an experienced people manager to lead a team of technical specialists who manage three discrete data sets and provide regular, timely and accurate reporting on patient-related activity to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

The team and the role

With a dedicated team focused on each of the three data sets, the team’s key responsibilities are data submission, auditing, testing, documentation and training. Each team is also responsible for developing and implementing the necessary underlying business processes to ensure compliance with DHHS definitions and business rules.

In this management role, you will have overall responsibility for a team of 10 people, with the support of two direct reports. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the unit on a day to day basis;
  • Co-ordinating activities across multiple data sets to achieve effective service delivery;
  • Leading and mentoring team members and organising appropriate professional development;
  • Driving system and process improvements where relevant; and
  • Ensuring that stakeholders’ training needs are met.



About You

You are an accomplished leader and have a passion for people and systems. With tertiary qualifications in Health Information Management or equivalent, you have already built significant capability and you can readily demonstrate:

  • Effective people management experience;
  • A collaborative working style that enhances team performance;
  • Capability to implement and drive change to enhance team effectiveness;
  • Proven facilitation, negotiation and interpersonal skills enabling effective stakeholder management;
  • An understanding of DHHS reporting guidelines and policies; and
  • Logical, analytical and lateral thinking ability.


Experience in one or more data sets (VAED, VEMD, CMI/ODS) is desirable and an understanding of the relationship between data reported and Activity Based Funding will be an advantage.
