WW5929 - Health Information Manager / Clinical Coder - (Part-time) - Austin Health, Heidelberg, VIC


An exciting opportunity exists for two suitably qualified Health Information Managers/ Clinical Coders to join the Casemix Service at the Austin Hospital!

The roles are both part time, temporary maternity leave covers.

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, respiratory and ventilation and neurology, to name a few.

Austin Health has a fully Scanned Medical Record which provides an opportunity for HIM’s to broaden their experience, with the opportunity of working from home. Austin Health uses both the 3M Codefinder, in addition to Turbocoder for trainees.


Responsibilities / Duties: 
  • To carry out high quality morbidity classification of discharged patients using ICD-10-AM 9th edition.
  • To optimise the quality of the coding by participating in and taking responsibility for continuous quality improvement strategies and audits.
  • To participate in a comprehensive and ongoing education program that is developed and implemented for Health Information Managers/ clinical coders.
  • To maintain current knowledge of developments in all aspects of health Information management.


Essential:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management) or other equivalent qualification and eligibility for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia.
  • Well developed clinical coding skills using ICD-10-AM and a good understanding of casemix / DRGs.
  • Ability to determine priorities and organise workload effectively and efficiently.
  • Well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as member of a large team.
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience and proficiency with coding in ICD-10-AM 9th edition


Desirable: 
  • Previous tertiary hospital experience
