Our Clinical Information Systems Unit is looking for a Clinical Coding Auditor to join our young dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with clinical coders and clinical staff to increase capability while optimising DRG assignment.

You will coordinate the coding quality audit and education program to ensure a high standard of coding accuracy providing high level education and auditing services to Clinical Coders, Executive and Healthcare Professionals within the Hospital and Health Service

Responsibilities / Duties: 
  • Provide training and education to the Clinical Coding Service and conduct regular auditing to ensure compliance with the Australian Coding Standards, correct ICD-10-AM code allocated and accurate DRG assignment.
  • Work in partnership with Clinical Services to undertake clinical documentation audits to ensure documentation specificity meets both the clinical and coding requirements.
  • Undertake a leadership role in contributing to; and mentoring the Clinical Coding workforce with proactively engaging in Clinical Coder Liaison and providing support to our clinical workforce regarding documentation practices.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in Clinical Coding by participating in coding networks and ongoing education and training.
  • Develop education packages for both Coding and Clinical staff in order to develop knowledge within the organisations workforce.
  • Conduct presentations and information sessions for Coding, Clinical and Executive staff relating to Clinical Coding, Documentation and Activity Based Funding.
  • Undertake a leadership role in coding decisions and provide expert guidance on identified issues or areas for improvement through the facilitation of information with clinicians, coders and other hospital staff.
  • Actively contribute to maintaining a safe workplace that values the health and safety of co-workers, clients or visitors.
  • Actively contribute to developing and maintaining a culture where staff are vigilant to risks to themselves, their co-workers, clients or visitors (including health and safety, business and operational risks).
  • Actively participate in the Health Service Performance Planning and Appraisal and Individual Development Planning processes


To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:

  • Experience with ICD-10-AM codes and clinical coding qualifications
  • Technical clinical coding experience
  • Clinical Coding Audit experience
  • High level written and verbal communications skills to deliver presentations
  • Ability to make recommendations, propose strategies and prepare reports
