WW5954 - Senior Health Information Manager - (Full-time) - The Icon Group, South Brisbane, QLD

In response to our rapid grown, we have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Health Information Manager to join the team at our Corporate Office located in South Brisbane. This is a newly created management role that is responsible for the successful management of the medical records, medicolegal, medical typing and document control departments. Additionally, this position will also be responsible for the training, implementation and provide advice around the successful delivery of medical record health planning. This role will report to the National Health Information Manager on a full-time permanent basis.

The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience with managing multiple departments in a Health Information Management environment. They will have well-developed time management and problem-solving skills, the ability to prioritise tasks and work under minimal supervision. They should also possess excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively within a team environment. They will be IT tech savvy with a sound knowledge of computer based software applications including Word/Excel/database management systems is also required.

Responsibilities / Duties: 
  • Day to day management of multiple staff and departments within the Health Information Management Service
  • Interpret a variety of records and preserve, release or archive them in files and databases for administrative, legal and patient use
  • Assist with the development and management of forms rationalisation and digitised medical records management
  • Evaluate organisational needs of record keeping and monitor performance of systems and update them periodically, analysing operations to modify systems for optimal results
  • Implement procedures for archiving data and create classification systems, indexes and guides for inputting information
  • Undertake data analysis and produce reports focusing on admissions, discharges, pharmacology dispensing and clinical coding data
  • Participation in audits as necessary

  • A Minimum of 5 years’ experience in leading multiple departments within a HIM service
  • Tertiary qualifications in the area of Health Information Management is mandatory.
  • Travel locally and interstate would be required
  • Extensive knowledge, and experience with undertaking release of information and Privacy Act in a private hospital setting
  • Experience in record keeping and classification methods, using computerised programs, and training and assisting users on how to properly navigate systems
  • Strong analytical, reporting and problem solving skills
  • Relevant computer technical skills applicable to hospital administration systems capability
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and meet tight deadline

  • Post graduate qualifications relating to health informatics, health information management or system administration would be highly regarded.
  • Clinical Coder qualification highly desirable
