Northern Health is one of Victoria’s busiest public health services. Our acute and sub-acute health services cover a local community of approximately 728,000 people and our emergency department treats almost 70,000 patients each year.

The northern community is located in one of Melbourne's most significant growth corridors and our local population is expected to grow by 64% or an additional 128,569 people by 2031. The Northern Health catchment encompasses the rapidly expanding local government areas of Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Nillumbik, Whittlesea and Moreland.

An exciting opportunity exists for enthusiastic, experienced and highly motivated HIMs/Clinical Coders to join the Health Information Management Unit at Northern Health. The successful applicant(s) will work as part of a team of 20 coding staff and primarily be based at The Northern Hospital.

The role includes, ICD-10-AM coding from the Clinical Patient Folder (scanned medical record) using the 3M Codefinder, auditing and other quality related activities.


Essential: 
  • Eligible for full membership with HIMAA
  • Effective communication and management skills
  • Ability to achieve targets and deadlines
  • Knowledge of casemix funding
  • Thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology
  • Coding experience of at least 2 years using ICD-10-AM


Desirable: 
  • Experience using 3M Codefinder
  • Experience using a scanned medical record
