The position of Clinical Coder is a highly challenging and rewarding career opportunity within Gippsland Southern Health Service.

The Clinical Coder is primarily responsible for coding episodes of care in accordance with set standards and for performing other administrative support tasks to ensure an efficient, effective and highly confidential health record service is provided to clients/patients of GSHS. This position amongst others is responsible for promoting GSHS as a quality regional health service provider.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To succeed in this position you will ideally possess the following skills:

  • Completion of a recognised course in ICD-10-AM Clinical Coding, Case-mix and related activities;
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical coding experience including exposure to a variety of medical and surgical specialties;
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to communicate at all levels;
  • A commitment to high quality medical records management.

The scope of this position will include health information tasks in both campuses of the organisation. Full time or part time hours will be discussed with the individual applicant’s preferences and determined based on qualifications and experience.

Remuneration is negotiable, dependent on experience, qualifications and in line with current Award provisions. GSHS offers a comprehensive orientation program on commencement of employment.   • Eligible for full membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) or have successfully completed a recognised clinical coding course
  • Demonstrated experience coding using ICD-10-AM 7th Edition
  • Demonstrated coding competency and case mix knowledge
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of computer software packages including 3M CodeFinder
  • Understanding of and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Satisfactory National Criminal History Check upon commencement of employment
  • Well-developed interpersonal, communication, negotiation and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment

  • Current Drivers Licence
