WW6034 - Health Information Manager and Clinical Coder - (Part-time / Contract) - Northeast Health Wangaratta, Wangaratta, VIC


NHW is seeking two suitably qualified and highly motivated persons to join the Health Information Services (HIS) Team as a Heath Information Manager (HIM) and a Clinical Coder.

With clinical coding being the primary role of the successful applicant, they will have a well-developed knowledge of ICD-10-AM and the Australian Coding Standards. Northeast Health Wangaratta uses a fully interfaced 3M Codefinder software alongside other clinical information systems. There is also a comprehensive auditing program which the applicant will be an integral part of.


Responsibilities / Duties: 
  • HIM - Coding, Case mix review, Victorian Dataset Submission, Health Information policy and procedure review, participate in quality activities, regional hospital HIM services as required.
  • Clinical Coder - coding, Case mix review, participate in quality and education on coding.


Essential: 

Health Information Manager

  • Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent, or completion of a recognised Clinical Coding course.
  • A demonstrated level of competence in coding and the ability to maintain this level of competence over a required minimum number of records per shift
  • Ability to comply with the “Behavioral Outcomes” for this role



Clinical Coder

  • Must have completed HIMAA Intermediate ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS, or equivalent.
  • Eligible for membership with the Health Information Management Association of Australia
  • A demonstrated level of competency in coding and adherence to the Australian and Victorian Coding Standards with the ability to maintain this level of competence over a required minimum number of records per shift
  • Demonstrated time management capabilities and ability to work to a deadline.
  • Ability to comply with the “Behavioral Outcomes” for this role Desirable
  • 2 years experience coding with a wide variety of casemix
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Eligible for membership with the Health Information Management Association of Australia
  • Demonstrated communication skills, ability to relate to staff at all levels



HIM and Clinical Coder - All staff must have and remain current for continued employment the following:

  • A current National Police Check (renewed every 3 years)
  • A current Working with Children Check (renewed every 5 years)
  • Statutory Declaration for applicable workers who have lived overseas


Desirable: 
  • 2 years experience coding with a wide variety of casemix
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, ability to relate to staff at all levels
