WW6036 - Health Information Manager / Clinical Coder – 2 positions - (Contract) - Mercy Hospitals Victoria - Heidelberg, Vic


  • 13 month maternity leave contract (full time) – based at Mercy Hospital for Women Heidelberg
  • 7 month maternity leave contract (part time - 5 days per fortnight ) – based at Werribee Mercy Hospital
  • An opportunity exists for motivated HIMs/Clinical Coders to become part of the HIS coding team at Mercy Hospitals Victoria Ltd (MHVL). The successful applicants will be required to provide accurate, timely coding using the 3M Codefinder in accordance with the Australian Coding Standards.
  • Statutory reporting (VEMD, VAED) responsibilities on a rotational basis.
  • The position also involves participation in coding audits and documentation quality improvement activities.

We are a multiple campus Hospital offering diverse and challenging casemix specialties including General Surgery, Orthopaedics, General Medicine, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Neonatology, Endoscopy, Chemotherapy, Renal Dialysis, Gynaecology, Urogynaecology, Oncology, Psychiatry, Rehabilitation, Geriatrics, Palliative Care, Emergency Medicine and more. We have a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and are about to open an Adult Intensive Care Unit.

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management) or equivalent, or Clinical Coding qualification from HIMAA or equivalent.
  • Previous coding experience and knowledge of Casemix funding principles is desirable but not essential.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • The ability to work across Mercy sites on occasion to ensure that coding deadlines are met

Applicants offered an interview will be required to sit a coding examination to assess coding competency and knowledge of the Australian Coding Standards.
