An exciting opportunity currently exists for enthusiastic and experienced Health Information Managers/ Clinical Coders to join our friendly Casemix Team. There are 2 Casual positions currently available within our team, and weekend work in addition to week day work is available with flexible working arrangements possible. Austin Health uses 3M Codefinder in addition to Turbocoder, and has a fully scanned medical record.

Responsibilities / Duties: 
  • To carry out high quality morbidity classification of discharged patients using ICD-10-AM and the maintenance of associated indices.
  • To optimise the quality of the coding by participating in and taking responsibility for continuous quality improvement strategies and audits.
  • To participate in a comprehensive and ongoing education program that is developed and implemented for Health Information Managers/ clinical coders.
  • To maintain current knowledge of developments in all aspects of health Information management, including completion of upcoming 10th Edition Education.

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management) or other equivalent qualification and eligibility for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia
  • Minimum of 2 years' previous coding experience
  • Experience and proficiency with coding medical records in ICD-10-AM 9th edition
  • Well developed clinical coding skills using ICD-10-AM and a good understanding of Casemix / DRGs.
  • Well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work well as member of a large team as well as the ability to work independently.
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills.
