WW6073 - Clinical Coder - (Full-time) - Health Southern NSW Local Health District - Bega, NSW

The Clinical Coder is required to assign accurate and timely clinical codes to episodes of care through analysis of clinical documentation using the current version of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM), applying Australian Coding Standards.

The Clinical Coder is acknowledged to have sound clinical coding skills across a range of clinical specialities and sound medical science with knowledge of case mix and DRG allocation.

Selection Criteria

  • Completion of HIMAA (Health Information Management Association Australia) Clinical Coding qualifications and evidence of coding proficiency in ICD-10-AM 8th edition, with a minimum of 12 months coding experience across a range of DRGs.
  • Demonstrated extensive interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills in order to liaise effectively with clinical staff in relation to clinical coding and documentation issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, conduct, and/or participate in, quality improvement activities in relation to coded data and coding processes
  • Demonstrated computer skills in a range of computer systems, including Microsoft office applications and email systems and the 3M Codefinder software
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, while working effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise work commitments to achieve specific deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate understanding and commitment to the concept of confidentiality
