The purpose of the Victorian Cancer Registry (VCR) is to develop and maintain a high quality accessible information asset to support epidemiological, clinical, behavioural and health services, research and evaluation. The VCR Data Capture Team collects information on all new and recurrent cases of cancer diagnosed in usual residents of Victoria.

Responsibilities / Duties: 

We are seeking a highly organised Medical Coder to join the Victorian Cancer Registry. Reporting to the Coding Team Leader, you will:

  • Review and analyse information from cancer notifications, translating the information into specific codes in accordance with International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICDO) and International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) guidelines
  • Enter data into the VCR information system, ensuring a high degree of accuracy at all times
  • Administrative tasks associated with processing and maintaining cancer registrations


We are looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience in the interpretation and abstraction of medical information using your medical terminology or disease coding training
  • Good anatomy and physiology knowledge
  • Experience utilising Microsoft Office suite including sound data entry skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a high level of attention to detail
  • Good time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines, prioritise and adapt to changing demands
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to proactively engage in process improvements and self-learning practices
