At Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) we provide a range of public health services to the Riverina and Murray regions of New South Wales. We employ approximately 4,000 staff who work in our 31 facilities; a Rural Referral Hospital, Base and District Hospitals, Multi-Purpose Services and Community Health Facilities.

Why not come and join our team and learn more about Murrumbidgee Local Health District? The role of District Clinical Coding Quality Manger is brand new opportunity with a fixed term contract through to 30/11/18.

Reporting through to the District Health Information Manager, the District Clinical Coding Quality Manager is responsible for the overall coordination, planning, design, development, implementation and delivery of auditing, training and education activities for clinical coders. In this role, you will work with relevant internal and external stakeholders including Health Information Managers, Clinical Coders and Clinicians to ensure clinical documentation is complete, unambiguous and reflective of the complexity of care for each episode. You will also be expected to provide expert advice and information on clinical coding quality activities to optimise outcomes through an improved understanding of coding, case mix, and DRGs. We are seeking candidates with the following:

  • Bachelor Applied Science (Health Information Management) or equivalent OR has completed recognised advanced level clinical coding certificates (e.g. HIMAA Advanced Clinical Coding).
  • Completion of (or currently undertaking/willing to undertake) a recognised qualification in clinical coding auditing.
  • Demonstrated high level experience, competency and extensive recent clinical coding experience using ICD- 10-AM & ACHI with a thorough understanding of the Australian Coding Standards and a high level understanding of casemix, DRGs and activity Based Funding models and their application within the health system.
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to lead, conduct, measure, validate and sustain coding quality improvement activities in relation to clinically coded data, including coding audits, ACBA or similar audit tools, error correction, analysis and presentation of results.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, designing and delivering education and training programs related to clinical coding.
  • Demonstrated ability to extract data from source systems, data warehouses and Implement and use available coding audit tools including PICQ to review, trend, analyse, benchmark and evaluate coding quality.
