WW6233 - Senior Health Information Manager, Education / Auditing - (Full-time) - Austin Health - Heidelberg, VIC

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in Cancer, Liver transplantation, Spinal Cord Injuries, Neurology, Respiratory, Nephrology and Rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Health Information Manager to join our growing Casemix team, in an Senior capacity.

This newly created senior position is an integral part of our friendly and dynamic team at Austin Health. The position encompasses a range of duties related to education, auditing and other senior duties such as mandatory reporting and research requests.

Responsibilities / Duties: 

The principal duties of this position are:

  • To assist with the comprehensive internal coding auditing program, including optimisation of coding quality
  • To assist with the extensive education program for all staff, including internal and external staff
  • To assist with completion of mandatory reporting of the Victorian Admitted Episodes Dataset (VAED) and other senior duties
  • To provide Austin health with Casemix information by ensuring accurate and timely completion of morbidity classification and participation in Clinical Unit Meetings

To be successful in this role you must possess the following:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management) or other
    equivalent qualification and eligibility for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA).
  • Excellent clinical coding skills using ICD-10-AM 10th edition, and a good understanding of Casemix and DRGs.
  • Ability to determine priorities and organise workload effectively and efficiently.
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work well as a member of a large team.
  • Well developed problem solving skills and the ability to resolve conflict.
  • Possession of the following personal qualities: motivation, flexibility, initiative, reliability and professionalism.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a coding related role

  • Previous experience with education/ training of others
  • Previous experience with mandatory reporting
