WW6204 - Clinical Coding Manager - (Part-time) - Icon group - South Brisbane, QLD

This management role is responsible for the successful management of the clinical coding department within the Health Informatics Service Department. This position will be responsible for the training, auditing and implementation procedural changes pertaining to ICD10-AM clinical coding. This role will report to the National Health Informatics Service Manager on a part-time permanent basis (0.5FTE).

The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience with staff management, private hospital health fund models, admission/discharge process knowledge and organisational skills, along with considerable clinical coding experience. They will have well-developed time management and problem-solving skills, the ability to prioritise tasks and work under minimal supervision. They should also possess excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively within a team environment. They will be IT tech savvy with a sound knowledge of computer based software applications including Word/Excel/database management systems is also required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Day to day management of multiple clinical coding staff located throughout Australia
  • Undertaking audits and appropriately action the results on coded ICD-10-AM/ACHI admissions
  • Provide expert advice on the application of the ICD-10-AM Clinical Coding standards
  • Provide expert advice on the admissions/discharge data capture relating to private hospital requirement across various States/Territories of Australia

To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate:

  • A Minimum of 5 years’ experience in managing a Clinical Coding department within a HIS department
  • Bachelor of Health Science (Health Information Management) or advanced Clinical Coding and Coding Audit qualifications from a recognised and accredited organisation
  • Post graduate qualifications relating to health informatics, health information management or system administration would be highly regarded.
  • Previous private hospital experience including knowledge of private sector funding models
  • Knowledge of admission/discharge data capture and how they relate the State Health requirements
  • Knowledge of data submissions and correction of error reports from external bodies e.g. State Health, HCP, PHDB and Cancer Registries
  • Travel locally and interstate would be required
  • Strong analytical, reporting and problem solving skills
  • Relevant computer technical skills applicable to hospital administration systems capability
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and meet tight deadline
