WW6228 - Clinical Coder (A03) - (Full -time - 12 month position) Lady Cilento Children's Hospital, South Brisbane, QLD

An opportunity exists for a Clinical Coder to join the coding team at Children’s Health Queensland.

The Clinical Coder will:

  • Accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classifications to patient episodes to meet data reporting requirements of Queensland Health.
  • Possess entry level clinical coding skills & knowledge, and either possess or be able to develop a sound level of understanding of activity based funding and its relevance to clinical coding.

  • Accurately assign ICD-10-AM and ACHI codes in accordance with Australian Coding Standards, national and state coding authority guidelines, and Queensland Hospital Admitted Data Collection guidelines within designated timeframes
  • Complete cancer registry notifications
  • Develop and maintain a sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology, clinical disease processes, pharmacology and diagnostic and procedural terminology together with coding-related systems and standards, utilising appropriate resources
  • Actively engage in quality improvement and education activities and other initiatives related to coded data

Criteria for the position:
While not mandatory, the following is highly desirable:

  • Degree in Health Information Management (or equivalent).
  • Certified competency in HLTADM005/HLTCC301B Produce Coded Clinical Data; or
  • Successful completion of all mandatory medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and clinical classification units within a Health Information Management degree (or equivalent)
