WW6293 - Health Information Manager - (Part-time) - Austin Health - Northeast Melbourne, VIC

  • 22.8 hours per week (3 Days) – Temporary – to May 19
  • Grade dependent on experience

Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across 3 campuses in the northeast of Melbourne and state-wide. Austin Health is world-renowned for its research and specialist work in cancer, liver transplantation, spinal cord injuries, neurology, endocrinology, mental health and rehabilitation.

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic Health Information Manager to join our Mental Health Team.
This part time position is an integral part of our friendly and dynamic team at Austin Health. The position encompasses a range of duties related to reporting, coding, mental health act processes, research, liaison with medical, nursing, allied health and administration staff.

Responsibilities / Duties:
The principal duties of this position are:

  • To use the Client Management Information system to generate reports on the services’ performance and to meet funding agreements for the purpose of
  • To assist with the extensive education program for all staff within the service
  • To ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act by monitoring data entry and completion of paperwork.
  • To assist in overseeing the scanning process to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • To assist with the completion of coding for the service and manage the internal coding auditing program, including optimisation of coding quality


  • Bachelor of Applied Science (Health Information Management) or other equivalent qualification and eligibility for full membership to the Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA).
  • Excellent clinical coding skills using ICD-10-AM 10th edition, and an understanding of Casemix and DRGs.
  • Ability to determine priorities and organise workload effectively and efficiently.
  • Well developed interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work well as a member of a team.
  • Well developed problem solving skills and the ability to resolve conflict.
  • Possession of the following personal qualities: motivation, flexibility, initiative, reliability and professionalism.


  • Previous experience with mandatory reporting
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Victoria 2014
  • Knowledge of the CMI
