WW6306 - Coding & Casemix Project Officer - (Part-time) - Melbourne Health - Parkville, VIC

  • Pay Rate: $36,075.52 Per annum

The purpose of this role is to assist the Coding and Casemix team in managing and completing internal and external projects. Internal projects will include coding related projects and external projects may include quality and safety projects, documentation improvement and data quality.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure an up to date coding procedure manual and links to all relevant reference material, is maintained for the benefit of all coding staff.
  • Report 3M Codefinder issues and enhancement requests, including pathway errors to 3M.
  • Liaise with the ECM System Administrator on Coding workflow, Reporting Services and the Audit tool requirements, upgrades, improvements and testing and implementation.
  • Liaise with DHHS to receive the PICQ report and notifying and provide education to the Coding and Casemix team of their PICQ errors.
  • Prepare agenda papers, take minutes, distribute papers for the monthly RMH Coding and Casemix team meetings; includes co-ordination of coding consistency records
  • Responsible for maintaining the Information and Performance intranet home page.
  • Submission of monthly iPM Cancer Registry extract report to VCR.
  • Respond to queries from the Victorian Cancer Registry and correction of cancer registration errors as necessary.
  • Education of new coding team members. Submission of official request for new user passwords for login to VCR.
  • Testing of iPM Cancer Registration package as applicable.
  • Maintenance of up to date VCR publications and modifications (including education of coders).
  • Respond and provide ICD-AM diagnosis codes, ACHI codes and casemix information/data to requestors; both internal and external.
  • Liaise with the EMR team with coding and casemix related content and workflow and other related items.
  • Liaise with Melbourne Health staff regarding internal projects and assist with data collection and interpretation of coding and casemix data.
  • Other duties as directed by the Coding and Casemix Manager or Director of Information and Performance.


Key Selection Criteria

  • Formal Qualifications: Masters/Bachelor of Health Information Management, Bachelor of Applied Science (HIM) or Diploma of Medical Record Administration or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years post graduate experience in a clinical coding position, preferably at tertiary level
  • Eligible for membership of the Health Information Association of Australia (HIMAA)
  • Ability to set and meet strategic goals
  • Demonstrated experience of accurate coding of complex inpatient episodes using ICD-10-AM and ACHI
  • Expert knowledge of Australian and Victorian Coding Standards and the ICD-10-AM and ACHI classification
  • Thorough understanding of the Victorian Admitted Episodes Dataset and the Policy and Funding Guidelines - Victorian Public Hospitals, Victorian Criteria for Reporting, DRG grouper logic
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent computing skills including Microsoft Office suite

  • Previous tertiary hospital experience
  • Previous staff training and education experience
  • Previous experience with IPM and the 3M Codefinder software
