WW6315 - Lecturer - Health Information Professional Practice - (Casual) - La Trobe University Sydney Campus, Sydney CBD, NSW.

Professional Practice is a subject in which students will learn the functional components of a Health Information Service and the responsibilities of Health Information Managers in relation to the management of health records, developing skills in a health business communication genre. Students become familiar with electronic and manual systems for health record identification, filing, tracking and other Health Information Service functions. Students integrate introductory theory and practice by undertaking a short professional practice placement in the Health Information Service of a healthcare agency to which they are assigned.

The subject is taught using a blended learning mode of teaching and learning in alignment with the University’s Digital Learning Strategy. La Trobe Sydney is seeking to recruit an experienced and dynamic teaching staff member to facilitate a 2 hour workshop per week in 2018 Study Period 2 (commencing 30th July, 2018).

Responsibilities / Duties: 
  • Facilitate pre-designed workshops for a small student cohort using evidence-based pedagogies, under the guidance of the Subject Co-ordinator
  • Mark assessments and undertake academic administration connected with the subject in which the academic teaches.

  • A university degree (from an externally accredited [by HIMAA] profession-entry course) in health information management or related field
  • Professional experience as a Health Information Manager (HIM) or related field
  • High level oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member with people from diverse backgrounds in a collaborative and collegial manner.
  • Demonstrated high levels of self-motivation and personal management skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective teaching methods and pedagogies and experience in university or workplace/professional development teaching.

  • Current professional credentialing, specifically Certified Health Information Manager (CHIM).
  • Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or evidence of equivalent professional preparation for Higher Education teaching.
