WW6322 - Manager, Clinical Coding Services - (Full-time) - Mater - Brisbane, QLD

Mater currently has a wonderful and career defining opportunity for a Manager Clinical Coding Service to join the team. This role will be offered in a permanent and full time capacity and based at our South Brisbane campus.

Reporting to the Director, Revenue Strategy you will provide manager level leadership and operational management of the Clinical Coding Service in accordance with best practice, to facilitate the achievement of Mater’s mission and strategic objectives. The Clinical Coding Service is responsible for the accurate, timely and optimised clinical coding of all Mater discharges (approximately 12,000 per month) within the context of both public and private inpatient funding models.

The Manager Clinical Coding Service is responsible for ensuring both the accurate coding of documented diagnoses and procedures and the identification and rectification of documentation deficiencies at the time of coding.

What you’ll be doing
Key accountabilities will include:

  • Provide effective leadership to enable the achievement of a best practice Clinical Coding Service at Mater
  • Effectively manage all functions of the Clinical Coding Service to ensure quality, effective, efficient and risk-managed service delivery. Meet the business objectives and achieve the key performance indicators for the Clinical Coding Service.
  • Ensure an effective coding quality and Clinical Coder education program is in place that ensures the highest quality of coded data is produced.
  • To support the organisation’s activities associated with clinical documentation improvement ensuring full engagement of the clinical coding team in implementation of clinical documentation improvement strategies.
  • Initiate, lead and effectively influence clinician understanding and engagement in clinical documentation requirements, clinical coding, DRG assignment and revenue optimisation.
  • Lead and/or participate in projects as required relating to clinical coding, classification and health record documentation.
  • Champion, support and advocate for ITD initiatives including the implementation of the Digital Strategy.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the ICD-10-AM and AR-DRG classifications, hospital funding contracts, and industry news, directions and best practice relating to coding, CDI and management practices.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated success in a leadership role and in managing a large team. You will also possess the following:

  • Possession of a qualification in Health Information Management or Clinical Coding is essential
  • Sound and current clinical coding skills in ICD-10-AM and expert knowledge of the AR-DRG classification. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the clinical coding field.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing the clinical coding function including improving clinical coding timeliness and quality.
  • Demonstrated experience in inpatient revenue optimisation associated with clinical documentation improvement, clinical coding and DRG assignment.
