WW6343 - Manager Medical Records - (Contract) - Western Health - Footscray, Sunshine, Williamstown, VIC

This role is a temporary full time position for a period of 12 months.

The purpose of this role is to provide effective and responsible leadership, development, management and performance of Medical Record Services. This includes:

  • Successful achievement of operation activities and key performance indicators of the department
  • Recruitment, management and development of Medical Record Services staff
  • Review and update policies, procedures and guidelines relevant to the functions of the department
  • Ongoing review and improvement of departmental operations, procedures and systems
  • Development and successful achievement of an annual business plan that supports the current and future objectives of the departments, and where appropriate those of the division, directorate and Western Health

This exciting role is well suited for an individual with knowledge and experience in health information management, medical record services, digital or electronic medical record systems and staff management.

Responsibilities / Duties: 
  • Ensure measures are implemented to maintain high quality, high accuracy and consistent throughput of document scanning, and transcription of outpatient correspondence and operation reports.
  • Ensure medical record information is made available to both internal and external health care providers in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ensure regular scanning and transcription quality assurance activities are conducted, providing opportunities for feedback to staff (where relevant) as well as identifying areas for improvement
  • Implement measures and maintain guidelines for timely release of information to other healthcare providers and government agencies
  • Oversee the merging of duplicate registrations, including maintain and reporting on the number of merges completed by Medical Record Services to relevant committees as requested

  • Bachelor of Health Information Management (or its equivalent)
  • Eligible for full membership of Health Information Management Association of Australia
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior role in a Health Information Service or similar with evidence of direct staff management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to recognise, support and develop the skills of staff and to identify staff development needs

  • Knowledge of health applications including Patient Administration Systems
  • Experience with the BOSSnet Digital Medical Record system or other digital or electronic medical record systems
  • A strong understanding of Information Technology system concepts and methodologies
