WW6347 - Health Information Manager - (Full-time) - Northeast Health Wangaratta, Wangaratta, VIC


  • Pay Rate: Grade 1 HIM Victoria

This position will entail key tasks:

  • Assist where required with the operational management of Health Information Services through staff management, coordination and implementation of new and updated procedures for patient information management as well as providing excellent customer service to all dealings in health information release.
  • Clinical coding will be undertaken using the current classification of ICD 10AM. The HIM will actively participate in coding meeting and education sessions. The HIM will demonstrate a low error rate in coding and DRG allocation and will ensure compliance with Australian and Victorian Coding Standards and meet Key Performance Indicatiors (KPI) for coding output.
  • The HIM will assist in data set maintenance for four major data sets: VAED, VEMD, VINAH and ESIS to ensure compliance with data submission deadlines as mandated by the Department of Health and Human Services.
  • The HIM will participate and assist with the provision of HIS contracted to regional hospitals as outlined by specific service agreements.
  • The HIM will assist in the transition to a new PAS system and also the progression of moving from a paper health record to the electronic medical record in the near future.
  • The HIM will ensure compliance with the standards of regulatory compliance for administrative and clinical information systems within the Australian Legislation and Regulation, Victorian Legislation and Regulation ( ie Public Record Office of Victoria) and Northeast Health Wangaratta Policy and Procedure Framework.
  • Other duties may include: forms design, table maintenance within the PAS, quality improvement activities, supervision of students from local and external educational facilities, and other projects that may arise involving both operation and financial aspects of health information, and the provision of a highly motivated and resourceful Health Information Service.


Responsibilities / Duties: 
  • ICD 10 AM and ACHI Coding and grouping using the fully interfaced 3M Codefinder Software
  • Coding and Casemix Audits
  • Provision of Health Information Management services to smaller contracted regional health services.
  • Key support to the role of HDSS data management and compliance


Essential: 
  • Completion of a Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a similar coding position
  • A comprehensive knowledge of current Australian Coding Standards Highly developed oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and also independently


Desirable: 
  • Two years coding experience at a base hospital/subregional health service level
