Responsibilities / Duties: 
  • Assist the Clinical Coding Team with the allocation of ICD-10-AM disease and ACHI procedure codes to all hospital admissions, as required
  • Ensure coding is consistent with current ICD-10-AM standards issued by the ACCD
  • Clarify inconsistent, ambiguous or non-specific information in the medical record with the treating medical practitioner utilising department documentation query templates
  • Respond to requests from other departments and staff relating to provisional DRGs and DRGs required for quoting
  • Liaise with finance department staff on CMBS item number inconsistencies
  • Proactively maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding and classification/casemix industry trends and developments
  • Participate in monthly coding meetings and perform other duties associated with coding eg- cancer registration
  • Participate in and support education activities that will contribute to the development of yourself and other team members.
  • Ability to maintain a working knowledge and understanding of relevant policies and procedures and use these in work practices


Essential: 
  • 5 years’ experience in a coding role
  • Bachelor of Health Information Management (HIM) or equivalent; or HIMAA Accredited Clinical Coding Certification
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS and AR-DRGs
  • Effective communication skills; Flexibility and enthusiasm;
  • Outstanding time management skills
  • The ability to work independently or within a team.


Desirable: 
  • Experience with 3M Codefinder, Windows, internet and associated applications, Microsoft Office, Cerner Patient Administration System and PICQ
  • Experience in private health care setting
