Ballarat Health Services provides a complex range of surgical, medical, obstetric, psychiatric, palliative care, rehabilitation and residential services. Ballarat is located approximately 75 minutes’ drive west of Melbourne and offers a wide range of recreational, sporting and social facilities for a population of over 100,000 people. A vibrant, progressive regional city, Ballarat is large enough to retain its own regional flavour but is within easy commuting distance to Melbourne.

Our fantastic coding team is comprised of both HIMs and Clinical Coders who work in an environment where coding, casemix and clinical documentation initiatives are strongly supported by BHS Executive and Clinical Directors. You will be supported by the Coding Leadership Team to further develop your coding skills. Professional development is encouraged and career progression opportunities are available. BHS has a Digital Medical Record which allows for development and innovation in coding practices and flexible work arrangements.

We are seeking a qualified Clinical Coder preferably with 3+ years’ experience with large regional hospital level casemix. However we are happy to receive applications from qualified coders and HIMs with less but some coding experience, who are work ready and keen to learn and build their coding skills. Whilst the position is 20 hours per week, capacity to increase hours if required, is desirable.

Key Accountabilities for our role;

  • Code inpatient episodes in accordance with Australian Coding StandardsMeet standards of coding accuracy and volume relative to experience
  • Proactively participate in further training opportunities to improve/increase coding skills. Be receptive to and incorporate feedback regarding coding performance.
  • Identification of documentation deficiencies and subsequent generation of coding queriesParticipate in coding audit, quality and education activities relative to experience.
  • Identify opportunities to improve coding quality and maximise WIES funding

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory Immunisation clearance and a satisfactory current Police Record Check.
