An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and enthusiastic fully qualified Health Information Manager to lead a dedicated Health Information Services Team at St. Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne (SVHM).

This role is accountable for:

  • The management of both paper and digitised medical records for all SVHM patients
  • The strategic and operational management of the HIS service
  • Matters pertaining to Freedom of Information
  • Overseeing the coding/auditing/education to ensure all DHHS and Australian Coding Standards are met
  • Overseeing the management of dictation related to outpatient correspondence and operation reports
  • Overseeing the management of the HIS department at St George’s Health Service
  • Consultation for other campuses, departments & units on HIS policies & procedures
  • Ensuring privacy & confidentiality of patient information is maintained within the organisation
  • Ensuring all medical record forms are ratified and approved for use

Ideally your demonstrated management experience in a complex health service will equip you with the skills necessary to:

  • provide operational oversight to an engaged team
  • effectively interact with key stakeholders
  • focus on data integrity and quality outcomes
  • comply with contemporary standards, policies and legislation, and
  • integrate best practice and continuous improvement activities.

Key focuses include:

  • patient centred customer service, and
  • timely and comprehensive coding; informed by knowledge of information systems, health service operations and casemix funding principles.


  • Bachelor of Health Information Management (HIM) or equivalent
  • Eligibility for full membership of the Health Information Management Association of Australia
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a Manager, HIS or equivalent
  • Experience with Casemix & performance reporting


  • Experience working with a Scanned Medical Record.
