Responsibilities / Duties: 

The Position

St John of God Health Care has a new opportunity for an experienced Regional Clinical Coding Educator/Auditor to join the team on a permanent full time basis.

  • Reporting to the Manager Coding Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for training and education activities for experienced and trainee coders and will conduct regular audits on coded data with the aim to improve data quality and benchmark trends in data that require further education and development.
  • Based at Murdoch, this regional position will is an integral part of clinical coding services to ensure effective, accurate and timely coding data for SJG Bunbury Hospital, SJG Midland Hospital and SJG Murdoch Hospital. SJG Mt Lawley Hospital and SJG Geraldton Hospital will soon move to this regional structure.
  • Travel to hospitals will be required for 1-2 days per week, as required.



Essential: 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Ability to work within and contribute to the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Extensive coding and auditing experience with excellent knowledge and application of the Australian Coding Standards, ICD-10-AM, ACHI and National & State published coding advice.
  • Previous experience in providing coding education.
  • Previous experience in performing clinical coding audits.
  • Completion of the Advanced Coding Course or Accredited Coding Course or Coding Auditors Course.
  • High level of proficiency and expertise in Clinical Coding practices, use of patient administration software and standards and the ability to convey that knowledge to others.
  • Proven ability to manage a varied workload without supervision, to determine priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to analyse and interpret data and problems autonomously and the initiative to develop and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to foster professional working relationships both internally and externally and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated effective written, verbal and proficient presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
  • Clear and concise articulation of all educational requirements and audit results to the Coding teams.
  • Current drivers licence.
