The Position

St John of God Geelong Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a motivated Clinical Coder/Health Information Manager to join the Coding Service on a permanent part time basis, working 60 hours per fortnight (0.8FTE).

St John of God Health Care is committed to providing its caregivers with the tools and education they need for professional development and growth in a supportive and interactive environment.  The successful applicant will be exposed to a diverse casemix with specialties including Cardiothoracic Surgery, Interventional Cardiology, Robotic Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Rehabilitation with support and continuous education from our Clinical Coding Educators and Senior Health Information Managers.

Responsibilities / Duties: 

Provide accurate and timely inpatient ICD-10-AM coding.
Maintain a high standard and efficient service within Health Information Services.
Contribute to the delivery of quality patient care through a complete medical record that ensures the patient's right to confidentiality.

  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
  • Tertiary qualification in Health Information Management or successful completion of Clinical Coding course or equivalent.
  • Attention to detail with the drive to achieve accurate code allocation.
  • Proven ability to meet productivity standards
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Australian Coding Standards.
  • An understanding of Diagnostic Related Groups (DRGs)
  • Eligibility for HIMAA membership.
  • Demonstrated effective written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Strong commitment to quality.
  • Knowledge of the private hospital funding model.
  • Experience coding in an acute hospital environment.
