About the role

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Clinical Coder to join our Health Information Services team on a casual basis

Responsibilities / Duties: 

• Accurately assign specific morbidity and procedural classification to patient episodes to meet data reporting requirements
• Code inpatient episodes in accordance with Australian Coding Standards
• Meet standards of coding accuracy and awareness of DRG assignment and the impact on potential funding
• Identification of unclear or ambiguous documentation and subsequent initiation of coding queries
• Participate in coding audit, quality and education to expand coding skills
• Apply the principals of confidentiality, privacy and security with the medical environment

Essential: 

• HIMAA Introductory/Intermediate Clinical Coding Course/Certificate 1V in Clinical Classification
• Up to date Clinical Coding knowledge with at least 1-2 years’ experience using ICD-10-AM/ACHI/ACS
• Experience using 3M Encoder
• Strong organisation skills in planning, prioritising and managing workloads
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work within a team environment

Desirable: 

• Understanding of private sector funding models
• Experience using EPAS or EMR
