WW6699 - Clinical Coder - Casual - St John of God Hawkesbury Hospital, Windsor NSW

The Clinical Coder is responsible for accurate and timely classification of diseases and operations according to the International Classification of Diseases and related health Problems and the Australian Classification of Health Interventions, and the current Australian Coding Standards

Responsibilities / Duties: 

As a Clinical Coder you will be responsible for conducting 3M Code Finder records and procedure codes for all inpatients, assist with medical record retrievals and attend and continue education programs relevant to clinical coding.

Essential: 

• A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
• Completion of a Clinical Coder Course – (such as Tafe course, HIMAA course).
• At least 2 years clinical coding experience in a variety of case mixes in an acute facility.
• Good knowledge and ability to read clinical documentation.
• Understanding of the workings of a Medical Record Department.
• Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external customers of the department.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.

Desirable: 

• Ability to use the Patient Administration System and 3M encoder.
• Ability to code using the books if the Patient Administration System is down.
• As a minimum the clinical coder will have studied at the intermediate stage of an approved coding course.
• Ongoing clinical coding education such as Advance ICD-10-AM, ACHI and ACS Coding Certificate.
